Peg Carter – Mesa Life OptionsPeg Carter has always enjoyed being a part of new programs. Having helped with the development of four similar programs during her career, she couldn’t resist getting involved with Mesa Life Options during its infancy. In addition, she saw it as a chance to pursue her passion of working with people one-on-one. Today, besides donating her time as a peer mentor with MLO, she also volunteers one morning a week at the Apache Wells Library and is chairman of the community’s task force as it implements a long-range plan developed in conjunction with an ASU project. With a master’s degree in counseling and a doctorate in experiential education, Peg has dedicated her life to working with people who want to move forward in their lives. She was a pioneer in competency-based education in the 1970s, writing and delivering a program to train daycare workers while an assistant professor at Texas Woman’s University. During the early ’90s, she helped to pioneer a training program that taught many of Dallas’ homeless population job search skills and supported them while they looked for jobs. She also worked as a corporate trainer and coach until her retirement in 1999. Once retired, Peg married Bud Morris and moved with him to St. Charles, Missouri. When Bud retired in 2002, he and Peg sold everything, bought an RV and traveled around the country. They visited 45 of the 50 states before deciding to settle down, at least part of the year, in Apache Wells, a retirement community in Mesa. In addition to her volunteer work, Peg and Bud also host a spiritual discussion group in their home. |
